Guest Post vs Link Insertion: Which One Should You Buy?
If you buy links regularly, you'll face this choice on every order. The good news: there's a simple rule at the end of this article. First, the mechanics.
The mechanical difference
A guest post starts from nothing. You (or the provider's writer) produce an article, it passes the host site's editorial check, and it publishes with your link inside. You control the topic, the surrounding context, and the anchor.
A link insertion — also called a niche edit — starts from something that already exists. The provider adds your link into a relevant, already-published article on the host site. You don't get a new article; you get a slice of a page that already has age, indexing, and sometimes real traffic.
Speed & cost compared
Insertions are usually cheaper because no one has to write 800 words. They're also often faster to show effect, since the host page is already crawled and trusted. Guest posts cost more and take a beat longer to mature, but you get a full article built around your link.
| Guest post | Link insertion | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | New article + link | Link in existing article |
| Typical cost | Higher | Lower |
| Time to impact | Slower (fresh page) | Often faster (aged page) |
| Context control | Full | Partial |
| Anchor control | Full | Good, within reason |
When the existing page's authority beats a fresh article
If you find an insertion opportunity on a page that already ranks for related terms and pulls real traffic, take it. You're borrowing established trust that a brand-new post simply doesn't have yet. This is the insertion's superpower: age you can't manufacture.
When control of context matters more
Sometimes the story around the link matters as much as the link. Launching a product, targeting a specific keyword cluster, or needing a particular anchor in a particular context? A guest post lets you build the whole environment instead of borrowing someone else's. For money pages where you want the surrounding paragraph to reinforce relevance, the guest post wins.
Risk profile of each
Neither format is inherently risky — the page is what carries risk. A guest post on a zero-traffic PBN is junk; an insertion into a real, trafficked article is gold, and vice versa. Check the host page the same way for both: is it indexed, does it get traffic, and how many other outbound links already sit on it? More on that in what are niche edits.
A simple decision rule
Here it is: if you can find a relevant, trafficked, already-ranking page to insert into, do the insertion — it's cheaper and faster. If you can't, or you need full control of context and anchor, buy the guest post. Nine times out of ten that single rule makes the call for you.
Ordering both on Speka
You don't have to pick globally — pick per target. In the marketplace, most sites offer both a guest post price and a link insertion price on the same card, so you can mix formats across a campaign without switching tools. Start with the rule above and adjust as you see what moves.
